ATMOS WORKS launches in Poland: dual-use orbital logistics and systems architecture for Europe’s defence sovereignty
Kraków, 24 June 2026, ATMOS Space Cargo GmbH today launches ATMOS WORKS sp. z o.o., its dedicated space technology company for national security, as a Polish company headquartered in Kraków. ATMOS WORKS develops and operates dual-use orbital logistics and systems architecture for European government and defence sector customers.
"Kraków provides ATMOS WORKS the competitive technical and R&D resources, industrial base, and strategic location to deliver for European defence sector customers," said Jarosław Pustul, Managing Director of ATMOS WORKS. "We are building a Polish company that operates to European standards and answers the need for security built on technological sovereignty."
ATMOS WORKS develops and operates capability for in-orbit demonstration and validation, secure return of sensitive hardware and data, and responsive time-critical operations. The company is currently focused on dual-use technologies, while building the regulatory compliance framework required for future participation in strategic public procurement processes, including defence-related procurement and areas related to state security.
"ATMOS WORKS exists because European customers responsible for security and operational resistance need sovereign access to orbital logistics and orbital cargo return capability – under European frameworks, on European terms," said Sebastian Klaus, CEO of ATMOS Space Cargo. "We are establishing this business to meet that requirement directly."
Balnord has backed ATMOS Space Cargo since its seed round, followed the company through the successful orbital return mission of PHOENIX 1, and co-led its €25.7M Series A alongside Expansion Ventures. As a fund rooted in the Baltic Sea Region and Northern Europe, Balnord has actively supported ATMOS's expansion into Poland.
“Kraków has one of the strongest R&D and engineering environments in Central Europe for space systems and dual-use technologies. The establishment of ATMOS WORKS confirms that this base attracts companies capable of delivering to European security requirements." – Prof. dr hab. inż. Tadeusz Uhl, AGH University of Kraków, Faculty of Space Technologies.
ATMOS WORKS draws on the operational heritage of ATMOS Space Cargo's transportation and return platform, which has demonstrated capability for European institutional missions. The new company builds on this foundation to develop solutions for government programmes focused on security and control over space infrastructure.
